How do you wear your riding gear off bike?

Oh the fun things you can find in the drafts folder. I found this from several years ago. It appears to be from a Motorcycle First Thursday event in Minneapolis.

I learned a new way to wear my Roadcrafter Light from this event. Use the legs, but keep the zippers all the way up in the front? I’m not sure how it is staying on. It reminds me of how I like to take my leather one-piece half off to get some air, but it is significantly harder to get on and off.

500-1

I prefer to just take the Roadcrafter off and hang it on the bike. It only takes a few seconds to get on and off. 10? 15? The style above takes longer to adjust than to just take off. I usually only keep it on if it is cold or wet out.

Do you walk around with your riding gear half off? Why or why not?

  1. In the winter I tend to take off the Roadcrafter, roll it up and use a nylon strap to hold it as a "package". I take it into where ever I'm headed to avoid putting it back on cold. In the summer, I just throw it over the bike or put it into the sidecar depending on where I am. Easy on/off. Not the 10 sec as advertised but less than 20. I have that much time to spare. Walking around as pictured seems too awkward but that's just my opinion.

With the two piece gear, I usually left the riding pants on as it was a hassle to get them over my boots.

    1. I hate a cold roadcrafter and tend to take it in in the winter as well. Do you have armor in yours? The armor in mine makes it hard to roll up.

I can't do it in ten seconds either.. maybe 15-20. depends if i get the main zipper started on the first try or not.

    2. I have the armor and non-competition back armor. I just fold the legs up at the bottom of the back armor and flip the legs forward so the knee armor is at the top. Then fold the arms over and use a nylon strap between the knee/shoulder armor and the elbow. Maybe 20"x12" package. I don't have the hip armor which may make it more difficult.

    3. The hip armor makes it a touch more difficult. I also have the back armor. I may have to experiment.

  2. We wear Motoport over-pants and jacket, but they zip together into sort of a one piece. If it's a short stop we just let the coat hang off the back, however if we're in a national park and going for hike we strip and use a cable lock to tie it all down. Going into a shop or restaurant, sometimes we just take the jacket off and wear the pants. It makes me wear a pair of shorts under the pants, when I really want to wear nothing :)

  3. I find it very unpractical to wear a one piece suit anyway. Usually I leave my gear on the bike and secure it with a cable lock, like Don does.

    1. a one piece can be unweildly for sure. the roadcrafter has a nice main zipper that makes it more manageable. My leather track suit is a huge pain to get on and off. Some of the other one piece suits are a pain as well like the olympia one.

  4. My helmet goes into the top box and I'll wear my jacket into what ever store I'm at or into work. I've been able to fold it up and tie it down at times as well.

    1. Nice. I like doing that a lot as well. Sometimes I also put on the sidebags and put my helmet in one, boots in the other, and suit in the top case.

  5. Leaving the top dangling just looks uncomfortable, like you'd always be pulling up your drawers.

I have always worn separate jacket and overpants. I take the jacket off and wear the pants around. I could take the pants off since I usually wear shorts or yoga pants under, but they don't look very good with my Sidi boots.

    1. Lol!

Yea, good ol' riding boots don't make for good companions to shorts...
