Motorcycle First Thursday

November 2011 Motorcycle First Thursday at Dulonos in Minneapolis, MN

Two weeks ago was the November gathering for Motorcycle First Thursday at Dulono’s in Minneapolis. It was smaller than last month, but still well attended considering it was November in Minnesota – maybe 200 people and bikes.

I love how dirty this Suzuki is. Completely covered in red dust/mud. It has been out having fun!

I ran into Rick the owner of this beautiful FJ1200 sports sidecar. Since I met him in September, I’ve been seeing him almost weekly. Amazing I hadn’t seen him before considering he lives about a mile away.

The owner of this old Harley gave us a show when he tried to leave. If I remember right, it was a 1922. I remember seeing it before, so I went digging through the blog archives. I found it here: First Thursday – September 2009.

He had some trouble kick starting it, and after six or seven tries he announced to the crowd:

“The starter is tired and needs a rest.”

We all had a good chuckle.

He finally got it started. The headlight was amazingly dim. Worse than one of those old flashlights. My cell phone is brighter. I hope he didn’t have to go far. I’m glad to see he keeps it running.

I had a fun time. I wonder how many bikes December will bring?

  1. How strange is this?

In the last ten minutes I have read two blogs, both with a post about the Motorcycle First Thursday at Dulono’s.

  2. Hello Chris, I'm the guy that Gary's talking about. I see we have take some very similar pictures. That is strange.

I don't know about making it to December's bike night, but it is Minnesota, so you never know.

  3. Damn, I should have had you take us by Dulonos. Not to stop, but just so I could see the parking lot and better envision this. Oh well, I guess that's what they make "Next time" for :)

I have a hunch there's a decent chance that they'll be at least one bike there in December.

Love the old Harley and agree that it is wonderful someone is keeping it running.

  5. I agree with Trobairitz. If I had a sidecar like that for Elvira, well.......

Are these the same First Thursdays that Gary C used to write about on Baron in Winter?

  6. Gary: Nope, never heard of him, and have not met him. Might have to now since it seems we have a similar interest in photos/bikes. With all the people who attend, I'm surprised it took this long to bump into someone else writing about it. Thanks for the introduction.

Erik: yes, it appears we have similar interest in bikes :) I will very likely be at the December 1st thursday. I usually try to attend every month. Let me know if you're going it'd be fun to meet up.

Keith: That is a good idea. I will have to remember that for the next time you visit ;) Yes, I think there will be at least one in december. hopefully more.

Trobairitz: I love the FJ sidecar. hopefully one of these days he'll let me ride it instead of just being a passenger!

irondad: you COULD get a sidecar like that... yes, the event has been running for 20 or so years
