Post Office and Passports

passport

My passport expired again. Time to renew it! I need it for my big motorcycle trip this year. I had a new picture taken at Costco for $5 for two photos. Don’t worry. I won’t show it to you. I wouldn’t want to break your screen. haha.

Since I already had a passport, it was pretty easy to renew. I was able to complete all the forms online. I just had to mail the fee, form, previous passport, and new photo.

Post office

The forms mentioned repeatedly not to bend anything, so I went and got a big envelope from the post office, and sent everything off express mail with tracking. I should have my new one in four weeks. The renewal process seems very easy.

Our Passports are only good for 5 years. And for some countries they have to be valid for a certain time before your trip. Wish we had 10 year renewals like you. Mine expires just after the summer, so I am good for this year. Our renewal process necessitates having to send my current (Valid) one in with the renew info and updated photo, so when I send it in I will not be able to go to the USA until the renewal arrives.

    1. I can't go anywhere until it renews either, but since I'm saving my pennies for my big trip later. It isn't a bother.
You could move a few miles south and get a ten year passport ;)

  2. I would have a hard time being without a passport, and probably pay the expedited fee to get it within a week.

The German passport is valid 10 years, and you return your old one when you pick-up your new (at least that was the process a few years back when I had to renew it.)

  3. Sonja, you know, the Germans might have actually thought about what they were doing there ... ;-)

  5. This is really more from one of your previous posts ( about the bike show ) but how is the instructor thing going for you? I've been busy with instructor updates and our first student class was last weekend. Seems like the time off is shorter and shorter!

    1. I think it is going well. I'm certified on five different MSF "courses" now, but the BRC/BRC2 are still the bread and butter. My first class this year is in late june. seems like a long way off.
