Goals for 2011

I started the tradition of posting my motorcycling goals last year. Here are my goals for 2011:

  • Ride more than 18,000 miles (2010 was 17,561)
  • Add five more states to my map:
Motorcycle Visited States Map as of 2010-Dec-31 (27)
I’m torn on which direction to go. East or West?
  • Complete MSF RiderCoach Training – I was hired in November 2010; my training is in May 2011.
  • Successfully teach a BRC – my first class has been scheduled for June 2011.
  • Attend at least two riding courses – ZARS, ERC, or CMOC

I’m happy that I completed all of my goals in 2010 except for seeing a TTXGP race in person. I’m disappointed it didn’t happen. Maybe I’ll get the opportunity this year.

  1. Of course I'm going to tell you to head east young man! You need to get up to the 1000 Islands (my old stomping and riding grounds), head up Moose River Rd to Old Forge...then what the heck, on up to Maine!! What beautiful country!

  3. Eve: East is tempting. There is a BMW rally in PA. Riding north around the great lakes to maine, and then back down and around to chicago would be fun. hmm just googled 1000 islands. looks nice.

RichardM: West is tempting. Good mountains that direction. West and north would be fun too. 3000 miles to Fairbanks one way. I don't think I have that much time off. :( I'd want at least a month, so I could spend 2 weeks up there.

Thanks! I'm excited (and slightly nervous) about teaching.

  4. I had a blast at the last BMWMOA rally even without the bike so I am considering flying out to PA for the next one.

  5. RichardM: That's what I've heard. The BMWMOA is very tempting especially since I've never been to one. Would you camp or hotel it?

  6. Of course, I am going to tell you to go both east and west! Do them both, you are only young once. That way you will also have a better chance of doing your 18,000 miles as well.

  7. Camping seems to be the best. Though Redmond was really sunny and hot.

  8. I'm not going to tell you East or West. I'm just going to wait and be surprised by what you chose :)

I add my congratulations to Richard's on you being hired as a Riding Coach. I look forward to your reflections on that.

  9. Gary: hmm... I like your style! I'll have to think about how. I feel like I'm lacking the right amount of vacation time.

RichardM: camping would make it more affordable. It is also a viable option since my wife won't be able to make it.

Keith: Thanks! I'm excited about the opportunity. I'll get to help others with their riding, and improve my own skills in the process. a win win!
