First Frozen Lake Ride of 2011

Riding on a Frozen Lake

I have been waiting all winter to be able to ride on the lakes. It’s one of my favorite things about Minnesota winters. Finally, yesterday I got my chance.

Riding on a Frozen Lake

I’ve been routinely watching the lakes in the area for signs of cars. When I pulled up to this lake, I saw about ten trucks. If a 4000lbs+ truck can go on the ice, my 700lbs Ural can too!

Riding on a Frozen Lake

I made a short YouTube video of the ride for the PBC and the SBC as well.

  1. I envy the easy access you have to frozen lakes for riding....here in Colorado, it's not very easy at all. Actually, so far, quite impossible without participating in a racing event.

I liked the mounting point you used in the first half of the video, engine guard?

Is it the wide angle view on the camera or is your left front turn signal pointing downwards?

  3. Weeee. I like the second mounting of the camera. It makes me feel like I am sitting in the sidecar. I haven't seen a solid frozen (and drivable) lake here at the West coast yet, and (to be honest) I don't miss them much. However, you make it look like winter riding can be lots of fun. Thanks for sharing and the solar bear dance ;-)

  4. Dom: Thanks. I envy your easy access to mountains. I'd be happy to trade a couple lakes for a couple peaks and passes. ;)

Yes, the GoPro was mounted with a RAM mount on the engine guard. The turn signal was loose from rough roads/lake and hanging down.

SonjaM: :) Winter riding is fun once you get the gear sorted out and aren't freezing. LOL. The SBC is silly fun. :D

  7. Keith: Just did the first "A" yesterday. The video embedded above has the "L"

RichardM: Thanks! I saw their tracks, but I didn't see them in person. Just me, a couple ATVs, and a dozen or so trucks.

  8. Wow, I bailed out too early on the video. My bad. Heather and I just finished watching the "L". I will work on being more diligent and vigilant from now on :)
