A Spider In The Family

Yesterday, I took a longish ride of nearly 300 miles. Sadly, I think it is the longest ride I've taken this year. A far cry from last year's fun indeed. It was also the windiest too. Into the 20+ mph wind for 150 miles. Bleh.

The ride was worth it though. I got to spend the afternoon with family. My uncle rode up on his new CanAm spider. We had a nice time chatting about riding. The CanAm looks pretty comfy, but way out of my price range at $26,000. I could buy two Urals for that kind of cash. Actually, thinking about it now, I could buy all my bikes for less than that and have plenty left over for accessories.

I should have asked him if I could ride it, but I was busy visiting and stuffing my face. It was a nice time.

  1. I wish I could understand those things... A good winter bike I guess.

    1. I prefer a sidecar myself. I think a canam would be horrible in the winter due to the low height and overzealous traction control.

  2. I would've been curious about what you thought of the Spyder. I've heard a lot of mixed opinions. One of those love it or hate it kind of things. Including one well published author who got rid of his since he thought that it wasn't safe...

  3. Perfect for Minnesota winters... swap the 2 front tires for skis and put sheet metal screws in the rear tire... oh wait, that would make it a snowmobile. All kidding aside, it would be interesting to ride one.

  4. I can imagine myself on something like a Spider one day, when riding two wheels becomes too challenging. That is some way off yet though, so for now, I am sticking to two! It is great that you got some long miles done.

    2. Not a Spyder... not just yet! Over the coming winter, I will be building a Triumph custom bike though.

  5. Don't worry Chris - I don't think we've been out on a 300 mile ride yet this year either.

That is a pretty Spyder. I love the color - no surprise there. I too would be curious to see what you thought of the Sypder. I think they are way overpriced though. We didn't spend that amount of $$ on our Subaru brand new.

    1. They are a bit much. More than my wife spent on her subaru too! The color is nicer than the white onem

  6. Circumstances have conspired against me this year. Only 4 rides - TOTAL - so far. Longest was about 65 miles...

I'm working to correct the problem.

  7. As my girlfriend keeps pushing me towards a 3 wheeler I've been taking a closer look at the Can-Am's. I understand they drive more like a car, are semi to fully automatic and are very comfortable.

I've seen used ones between 12-17K. Which is what we paid for our 2012 Chevy Sonic, and that had 0 miles on it.

    My longest ride...155 miles.

    1. Good luck with your 3 wheel search! I enjoy my sidecar. It is almost as much fun as my motorcycles, but a different experience
