Another Successful BRC Taught

Teaching a BRC

This weekend, I finished teaching another BRC (Basic Rider Course). I taught with Tom from Geezer With a Grudge, and had a good time. We enjoy going to lunch, but this was the first time we’ve been able to work together.

We normally do the classroom part on a weeknight and the range on the weekends in either an AM or PM class. Since there was no PM class, the classroom was smaller than usual, and I got to teach it solo. It was a good time.

A quick snap before the students showed up.

Teaching a BRC

Saturday brought lots (and lots) of rain for the first few hours. Some of the students forgot rain gear, so they got wet. The rest of us stayed (mostly) dry.

Sunday was scorching hot with the temps soaring quickly to the mid 90s. We had a strong bunch of students, and all of them passed. One even got a perfect score. So cool. Some of them wrote some really nice things in the comments on the review form too. A fun weekend. I’ll have to sign up with more classes with Tom.

The above is a different group lined up during their skills test – stopping quickly.

  1. That was a good group. My favorite moment was when a squadron of WWII plans flew over us and several of the students said it was the Russian Air Force coming to repossess your Ural. It could have been.

We went for a new mileage record with the 4-man afternoon class. At the end of the day, their bikes had between 34.5 and 35 miles on the odometer for the two days.

  3. Chris,

You're a saint for doing it. My favorite comment belongs to daGeezer, though. I got some chesty laughs at the thought of the Russians flying over for the sake of a Ural. It's a nice counter to an B-2 flying into afghanistan in search of an old Indian.

    1. It was a good one. the students liked his comments too. He used that line in class. :)

They don't really sell urals much in Russian anymore either, so they would have to fly over all red dawn style to get one ;)

  4. Great weekend of riding demos and teaching despite the rain I am sure.

You taught them to ride and mother nature taught them about gear choices.

    1. Lol. Yes. Nature taught them about gear. I told them about it in the class, but a couple didn't listen :-)
